There are many kinds of wrench in the market, for example, socket wrench, crowfoot wrench, adjustable wrench, open-end wrench, double box wrench, combination wrench, flare nut crowfoot wrench and so on. If you are interested in other tools or wrenches, please refer to our product description or our featured articles. Today, we are going to introduce the mini combination wrench.
When Do you Need combination wrench
Usually, we choose to use the socket wrench instead of combination wrench because it can go deeper place and more convenience, but not all situations are suitable for a socket wrench. For example, if there is not enough space to accommodate the ratchet and socket, or if the nut is too deep and the socket is not deep enough or long enough, then we are not able to use it, and there are some simple tasks that it’ll be more convenient to use combination wrench other than socket wrench.
Who is the combination wrench suitable for?
Since combination wrench has both the properties of an open-end wrench and a box wrench, it's a very convenient tool, you’ll want it be it bicycles, electronics, or vehicles that you’re dealing with. Even if you’re not a professional, but rather someone who enjoys repairing or making stuff themselves, you’ll want to use the combination wrench, especially our newly introduced mini wrench, not only does it take up very little space, but it’s also very light, making it an extremely mobile tool. There are also a variety of sizes for the wrenches which goes as small as 4mm Metric, 1/4 English, to 19mm Metric, 1 inch English, or even bigger, but as you go bigger it will become less common in your daily life, that is because bigger sizes are mainly used for ferries or large buses, the proportions of the wrench scales up with the size, so wrenches for ferries are sometimes as long as half a person, therefore most of them will require two or more people working together to be able to use it effectively.
How to use a combination wrench? And precautions about it
Next, we’ll introduce the way to use a wrench and also some precautions when using it.
Always pick the right size when using a wrench, which means not having any excess space between your wrench and fasteners; if you’re unsure about the size you can use a caliper to measure it. If an incorrect size is used, not only will it be harder to apply force, but it might also damage your fasteners.
Always remember; righty-tighty, lefty-loosey, even now there are still cases of people breaking their tools or parts because of tightening the fasteners too tightly. Many people might be curious as to why it is clockwise for tightening and anti-clockwise for loosening, this is because most people in the world are right handed, and it’s easier for right handed people to apply force in a clockwise direction, so we send our apologies to our left handed friends, hopefully there will be a way to tighten or loosen fasteners in the future that doesn’t involve discriminating left handed people. However, because of this we can also determine the direction with our right hand, the direction where our thumb is pointing at after we close our right hand is the direction to tighten the fasteners.
Finally, when using a wrench, always pull no matter tightening or loosening, don’t use pushing motion as it might injure you. Of course, if you’re not tightening it that tightly it’s fine to use both, but pulling is also easier to apply force with and also less likely to injure you than a pushing motion.
A lot of people go for affordability when picking these kinds of products, thinking that they can just buy another one if it breaks. However, we never know when danger is around us, don’t think lightly of the danger your tool breaking brings just because you don’t work in a dangerous environment, the broken tool might ricochet to hit your body, or even worse, your eyes, and not only bodily injuries, but the ricocheting might also wreak havoc on your surroundings. The tool itself might be cheap, but the parts around you may not, we believe no one would want to face a greater loss just because they went for a cheap tool, so we will teach you how to determine a wrench’s quality and also how to pick a suitable size for your needs, because at times it may not be the quality of the tool itself, but because of incorrect sizes causing the tool to break.
Different wrench sizes all serve their own purpose, don’t use too big of a wrench when you only need a smaller one, and vice versa. What does that mean? We all know that tools like ratchet come in different sizes such as 1/2, 1/3, or 1/4, different sizes have different torque limits, the bigger the size, the bigger the limit, you can check out our featured article about sleeves to learn more it. It’s the same for wrench sizes, for example, our Festar mini wrench comes in 10mm Metric, 3/8 inches English, you can find these sizes in a common sized wrench, but if you used a common sized wrench on some parts, it might break your parts such as the fasteners due to applying too much torque to it. Moreover, because of the common sized wrench’s thicker and bigger frame, it has limits to where it can reach. However, when you want to apply more torque to loosen or tighten up your fasteners, smaller wrenches might be insufficient, so we need to use different sizes accordingly.
